5 Best Photo Spots at GG’s Yard for Wedding Couples
Picture-perfect backdrops for unforgettable moments
At GG’s Yard, we’re lucky to be surrounded by some of the most breathtaking scenery in Scotland. From rolling heather-covered hills to panoramic coastal views, the natural beauty of our location offers endless opportunities for incredible wedding photos.
Whether you’re looking for dramatic landscapes or romantic hidden corners, here are our top five photo spots for capturing the magic of your wedding day (plus a bonus of our stunning location).

1. The Whale Bones on the Hill
Perched high above GG’s Yard stands the jaw bone of a Fin whale, washed up on Barlocco Island in Fleet Bay in March 2026.
The iconic whale bones make for one of the most dramatic and memorable photo spots on the estate. Framed by sweeping views across Fleet Bay and the Solway Firth, this elevated location is perfect for windswept veil shots, golden hour portraits, and intimate moments captured with a stunning sense of scale. It’s a climb, but it’s absolutely worth it.
2. Heather-Covered Hills
All around GG’s Yard, the rugged Galloway hills are blanketed in soft purple heather during late summer. These rolling moorland views provide a wild, romantic backdrop that perfectly complements flowing gowns, earthy tones, and timeless wedding style. A quiet walk through the hills is a lovely chance to steal a moment together while your photographer captures the calm between the celebrations.

3. The Fields
The open farmland surrounding GG’s Yard is a dream for natural, light-filled portraits. Whether being grazed by lambs in spring or glowing with golden tones in the autumn, the fields offer a peaceful, pastoral setting with room to play and move freely. Wide skies, traditional stone walls and soft tones let the love between you shine as the focus of every frame.
4. The Wildlife Pond
Tucked on the grounds beneath GG’s Yard, our wildlife pond offers a peaceful and picturesque setting surrounded by nature. The soft reflections in the water, swaying grasses, and wild surroundings add a tranquil atmosphere to your images. With Fleet Bay just visible beyond, it’s a beautiful blend of water, land, and sky, a hidden gem for intimate portraits or quiet moments together.

5. The Flower Meadows
In spring and summer, wildflower meadows bloom across the grounds, adding bursts of colour and a fairytale charm to your wedding album. Think bright whites, soft yellows, blues and pinks, bees humming in the background, and petals dancing in the breeze. These meadows are perfect for whimsical, joy-filled images that feel effortless and free.
All of these spots are part of the wider Laggan estate, which means couples celebrating their wedding at GG’s Yard have exclusive access to these locations across their stay. Many of our couples choose to explore multiple photo spots across their celebration. Whether that’s during a pre-wedding walk, an evening escape with the photographer, or a relaxed day-after shoot.
Bonus Tip: Mossyard Beach
Just a short drive down from Laggan is Mossyard Beach, a stunning coastal gem. With soft sand, scattered rocks, and sparkling views across Fleet Bay, this serene spot is ideal for sunset sessions or day-after shoots. The beach brings a relaxed, barefoot vibe to your photos, and the light and skies over the water is simply magical.

At GG’s Yard, your wedding photos aren’t just posed moments, they’re set among scenery that speaks to the wild romance of the Scottish coast. Wherever you choose to wander, you’re guaranteed a backdrop that’s as beautiful and unique as your love story.
